Living on Corvinusring

Wiener Neustadt

Near the center of Wiener Neustadt, the Innsbruck-based architectural firm SISSIBAY architects was commissioned by Anditsch & Partner GmbH to breathe new life into the area behind the provincial hospital with a residential complex.

The dilapidated buildings along three streets (Komarigasse, Corvinusring, Waisenhausgasse) were removed for this purpose. The result is three buildings that are partially connected to each other. The connection to the existing row of houses in Waisenhausgasse and the view of the listed neighboring building were given as much attention as the loosening up of the inner courtyard façade by means of different projections and recesses as well as different materials.

The street-side access to the two buildings via arcades means that the apartments are oriented towards the "inner courtyard". This results in two faces of the residential complex: a closed, quiet "street face" and an open, playful and varied "inner courtyard face". The differentiation between the two faces (façades) is reinforced by their different materials. The appearance of the inner courtyard façade evokes a sense of warmth and comfort thanks to the wood-look material used.

The recessed anthracite plastered top floor disappears in the eye of the beholder, making the building appear low. Furthermore, the length of the building was broken up by several "kinks" in the building. To get as close as possible to the feeling of having your own house with a garden, each apartment has a garden, a spacious balcony or a roof terrace.
